This year is filled with changes for myself and those around me; marriages, new relationships, new jobs, new responsibilities. I know that I have heard many people say ‘I don’t like change’ but I never understood how someone can say that. Isaac Asimov said “The only constant is change, continuing change, inevitable change…” So it got me thinking, how can change be easier on someone using yoga?

In the Jivamukti Yoga book there is a paragraph that talks about inversions and the ability that is has for one to be able to accept change easier. By coming into an inverted pose, it gives you a different point of view. I like the idea of looking at the same view, but from a different angle. By taking the time to work in inversions and look at your world for a new angle can ultimately help you to be able to accept changes and embrace them.

Inversions are not only helpful for change, but they offer other benefits as well:

Increased blood flow and circulation

Improvement of Mental Alertness and Focus

Balance hormone levels in the body

Yoga poses ranging from Adho Mukha Svanasana (Downward-Facing Dog), to Shoulder stands, handstand and Headstands are all poses that you can use.

So this week’s mantra is going to be acceptance; acceptance of change, and acceptance of your ability to embrace change and face it with positivity and openness.
